A champion schoolboy footballer with Xavier College in Melbourne, John was initially overlooked by prospectus AFL clubs. His persistence and work ethic during a stand-out year with the Box Hill Hawks, in 2001, ensured the Kangaroos added Baird to their rookie list in 2002. Following a successful debut year, he managed to play 20 games during 2003, cementing his spot in a formidable defensive unit. A 192cm athletic defender who can push forward, John has always shown plenty of promise and discipline.
John was unfortunately delisted at the end of 2005, finishing on 46 exciting games with the Kangaroos. Watch out for John dominating the SANFL in 2006 and beyond.
